If you don't mind the slight Gnome libraries dependencies: Code: | # emerge firestarter | It's a straightforward GUi that allows you to easily set basic firewall rules and more advanced things like port forwarding and access ctontrol over NAT. I like it. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

Yepp, true for WIN+MAC but the Linux version is free. 50$ shouldn't be a problem compared to other licence prizes for Windows, correct? Latest when looking onto the fact that you can manage iptables/ipfilter/pf/Pix with the same GUI. _________________ Nothing is secure / Security is always a trade-off with usability / Do not assume anything / Trust no-one, nothing / Paranoia is your friend / Think for yourself |

i am basically a free software guy....I just like the cross platform option I havent tried the linux version of fwbuilder, but if it is as good as the windows one...then that should work just fine.

Really easy to use, but powerful and secure too. _________________ "A million surplus Maggies are willing to bear the yoke; And a woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a Smoke" -- Rudyard Kipling (on why he chose cigars over his wife) |

iptables is a dependancy of firestarter, so...
But what i don't understand:
I had a working iptables ruleset, made with the help of the "IPTables Howto Part 1" here from the forums.
When i start Firestarter, i can't see any of the rules i made.
Does it start an own instance of iptables, or is it flushing my old rules?
I tried to stop /etc/init.d/iptables to see if it makes any difference in firestarter... it doesn't.
In the online documentation i can't find a note on "existing iptables ruleset".
So, what's up? _________________ Satyrium - Retro-Gaming |
