Kate not opening from Konqueror correctly?

Okay, so I've done a bunch of searching, but I'm not even sure entirely what to search for. Hopefully you guys can help (once again!).

Here's what happens:
1. Open Konqueror and sftp to a remote host.
2. Pick a file. Right-click, "open with", type in 'kate' (or select from the menu), Kate opens up.
3. It looks like Konq copies the file to /tmp and opens it, then responds a second later after it's deleted locally.
4. Just saving it doesn't save back to remote host, but saves the /tmp file instead.

Here's what happens part 2:
1. Same thing.
2. Same thing, but select Kedit instead of Kate.
3. It "just works" the way it's supposed to work - no local copy, save puts it back on the server, etc.

One other thing: If I use File->Open in Kate, input the sftp address there, it works fine! So Kate does know how to do it... something isn't set up right between Kate and Konq.

Can anyone explain why the remote editing works fine for Kedit but not Kate? Is there a setting I'm missing?
