|
|
How to get the vlc mozilla plugin without mozilla but with firefox?
I tried to set the nsplugin USE flag and then re-emerge vlc, but it requested mozilla as a dependency.
Then i tried to add mozilla to package.mask, hoping that it won't emerge, but portage complained about a masked dependency so i removed it from there.
Then i tried running emerge --nodeps vlc but it exited with an error.
Anybody has an answer to my problem?

It probably needs some headers from the Mozilla build tree in order to compile properly. In a similar way the mplayerplug-in package needs headers from gecko-sdk in order to compile. Unless someone patches it to compile against firefox or gecko-sdk then you're stuck with installing mozilla if you want the plug in to work in firefox. |

It does use mozilla-sdk to compile, but do not install mozilla as a browser if you have USE="-mozilla"
Also i rekomend mplayer plugins insteed. I hade some problems to get wmv movies to work in VLC. |

I got 2 news!
Good news:
vlc-0.8.2 compiles fine with the nsplugin use flag and about:plugins in Firefox shows that it is installed correctly.
Bad news:
There are still problems with that plugin.
P.S. I use mplayerplug-in now and I reckon that it's the best plugin so far. |
