Everyday I have to adjust the clock because it's around as much as 6 hours ahead.
I leave my computer on 24/7 so it's not the clock battery on my mobo. I tried emerging ntp and telling gnome to syncronise with internet time servers (I selected 2 or 3 server to have it panel clock prefs gui)
What could be causing this?

Make sure you are using the correct chipset drivers for your mother board, I know if you don't set that up correctly the clock will go crazy.

You mean the kernel northbridge module?
[Edit]I already have nForce/nForce2 enabled under "/dev/agpgart (AGP Support)" and "AMD and nVidia IDE support" enabled under "Generic Busmaster PCI DMA Support"
I don't see anything else about nVidia or nForce in my kernel config... Am I still leaving something out?
I'm using an Epox 8RDA+ motherboard with the nVidia nForce2 chipset.

Have you set the correct timezone on your system? I apologize if this seems extremely obvious.
And another thing: you have emerged ntp, but have you also followed the HOWTO NTP?

I emerged ntp cause the gnome panel applet told me it couldn't update time form the interweb without ntp installed... I Guess I assumed the gnome panel applet would take care of the config, but I'll check out the howto. Note that it was a problem before I emerged ntp, and that was just something I was trying to help keep it in line.
I think my timezone is set correctly. That's just set by making a symbolic link to your timezone file, right? Cause I've done that from the Gentoo Documentation a couple of times to no avail. If there's something other than just a symbolic link, I'm doing it wrong.

Don't worry, you are not alone. My clock is always 3 hours ahead. I made some investigations about this. My Gentoo install is fairly new, about a week old. When I set the date and checked it, everything was alright. After I linked the timezone info to /etc/localtime things got screwed. After every reboot my time is always 3 hours ahead. I haven't managed to fix this yet because I have other problems.

Ok I found a temporary solution. Relink another zoneinfo to /etc/localtime. For example I linked my localtime to the Azores time although I'm in Central Europe. My time is displayed correctly now.
P.S.: I think this whole zone info thingy is really FUBAR. |

Maybe your CMOS clock is set to UTC, but the OS thinks it's local time (or the other way round...).
Check your settings in /etc/conf.d/clock. |

Are you using the AMD64 arch on a Turion by any chance? If so, I just ran into this same problem. I could just watch my clock move twice or more as fast as it was supposed to. I had everything correct, and it would still do it.
I never actually resolved the situation even though I spent a good long while working on it.
But because I needed my wireless working correctly (bloody Broadcom), I finally defaulted back to x86. The clock issue ceased. It now works as it is supposed to.
But I miss the AMD64 version. It was a good 5% faster.

Notice how mine has the VIA Techonologies chipset, that needs to be enabled in your device drivers under your kernel.

For the clock problem on a turion 64, i just had to add a parameter to the kernel line in my grub.conf: no_timer_check.

I am facing this problem right now and am totally bumfuzzled on it.
- I have gone back and forth on whether the clock is set to local or UTC
- I am in Central Time in the USA (Chicago/Houston time). My localtime is soft linked to CST6CDT.
- My MOBO clock is correct, I did the following tests.
1) Booted to BIOS, set the clock (it was screwed up from the latest NTPd)
2) Left it in BIOS mode for a few hours, clock was fine the entire time.
3) After booting into Gentoo and waiting for my clock to start a drastic drift, I would call hwclock which tells the time of the mobo clock and it is correct.
- I have had all permutations of the NTP/NTPClient running via rc-update and init.d
My MOBO is an ASUS with an Nvidia North bridge here is my lspci.

This is a relative new load (3/4 months) and it may have had this clock drift before and I did not notice it or a recent emerge --update world caused it.
Any ideas?

I got ndiswrapper working on mine with some 64-bit drivers from Acer. I believe they are attached to a message in the ubuntu forums... |
