No matter what I try, I cant get radeonfb working with X800GT (amd64, pci-ex, 2.6.12-gentoo-r10). I also can't use fglrx drivers for xorg... |

I have the same problem (except that I have slightly different videocard model - X800GTO with R480 GPU). vesafb does not seem to work either. I tried to manually add device ID to the radeonfb driver (it's 0x5D4F, or 0x5D6F for secondary device), and now it finds the device but hangs when trying to find monitor, so probably the tweak should be somewhat less straightforward.
It's a pain downloading new kernel via dialup not knowing if that's gonna help... |

ATI has a terrible track record. As a rule of thumb you can expect fglrx driver support 10 months from the actual release date of your card.
If it isn't too late you should return that card and get a GeForce. I missed out on returning my X1800 and now I'm stuck with a X300 indefinitely. |
