Hi Everybody,

I emerged evolution-2.4.0 recently and I added the following to the packages to:

package.unmask:
Code:

=evolution-2.4.0
=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-1.4

I also tried the following: (as those are in the /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask
Code:

>=mail-client/evolution-2.3
>=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-1.3
>=gnome-extra/evolution-exchange-2.3
>=gnome-extra/evolution-webcal-2.3
=mail-client/evolution-1.3*

BTW: I tried them all with exact number, or just 2 digits. No success.

package.keywords:
Code:

mail-clients/evolution ~x86
gnome-extra/evolution-data-server ~x86

I also tried to add various other packages amongst others the following
Code:

gnome-extra/evolution-exchange ~x86
gnome-extra/evolution-webcal ~x86

Does anyone have a idea what I could do wrong?

Whatever I do I get for:
Code:

# emerge "=evolution-2.4.0" -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies
!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=evolution-2.4.0" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- mail-client/evolution-2.4.0 (masked by: ~x86 keyword)
# Leonardo Boshell <leonardop@gentoo.org> (14 Aug 2005)
# GNOME 2.12 betas. For testing purposes only.
# -- gnome mask start

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or
section 2.2 "Software Availability" in the Gentoo Handbook.

Is evolution-2.4.0 even more than masked and hard masked (whatever the correct terminology is)?

Any help is appreciated.

br,
Flox

Hi,

it's mail-client and not mail-clients you should write in your package.keywords

hi flickerfly,

I never tried that, but I assume that it would also work for 2.4 if it worked for previous versions

Thanks, that hasn't been my experience. It was working and this upgrade broke it. Oh well . . .

I would also like to confirmat the evolution 2.4 is a step in the wrong direction. IMAPS and Exchange no longer work at all. Either and both stall the app requiring an xkill or kill-9. This has been the case on 6 separate systems at work. We are downgrading back to 2.2.

I've also had similar problems with the new evolution. On my work PC I already had the ximian connector installed and an exchange connection set up, so after upgrading to 2.4, I can still use exchange, however it seems very unstable. On my home computer I did a fresh install of evolution 2.4 and evolution-exchange, but there I am unable to make a new exchange connection, as the setup dialog is incomplete.

Conclusion: if Exchange is important to you, don't upgrade to 2.4 yet...
