|
|
Well, I started a fresh 1.4rc3 install today. All went exceptionally smooth until the kernel emerge. I did 'emerge sys-kernel/gentoo-sources' and it seemed to go through the process fine until this:
*
* You have just installed a specialized,
* high performance patchset of the linux kernel.
* If there are problems with it, please report them
* by assigning bugs on bugs.gentoo.org to
* lostlogic@gentoo.org
* <--- this is a yellow asterisk, whereas the others are green
it is just stuck here. I can jump between console windows and probably login, but what has happened? What can I do to remedy this? Do I have to go through an install all over again?? |

I don't know the answer, but just to calm you down: no, you won't have to go through the entire process again. If you have turned the machine off in the meantime you will need to get back into the right environment though (mount, chroot and source profile).
If you are waiting for an answer here you may as well check the online package database if you have the most recent kernel, if not emerge rsync and then emerge gentoo-sources again. Alternatively, try merging the vanilla-sources |

I had this same problem, CTRL-C'ed out of it, and everything is fine. It seemed as though logger was stuck doing something. (Trying to log where it couldn't perhaps?) I didn't really worry about it enough to look into it, and I've rebooted into my newly built kernel with no problems.
However, this yellow asterisk/pausing thing happened again for me when I tried to re-emerge everything (since, for some reason, I lost my CFLAGS and therefore my cpu optimizations) and it got to unpacking perl. Only this time ctrl-c didn't do anything. I had to reboot. |

i had the same problem when emerging the gentoo sources. I did ctrl-c and everything went fine from there. It appears to be a minor bug in rc3. _________________ By the time you get through reading this you will realize how pointless it is. |

Hmm,
I had the problem with rc2 ! And after "emerge portage" "etc-update" "emerge gentoo-sources" works fine !

I encountered the "yellow star" problem, too. The instructions above to emerge portage, etc-update, emerge sync, emerge gentoo-sources worked for me.
Thanks! |
