After upgrading my system earlier today, I get a bunch of "device not ready" errors from my cdrom drive during boot. Nothing seems to be wrong with playing DVDs, but xine crashes when I try to play an audio CD and XMMS doesn't do anything. I tried recompiling the previous version of udev and the error messages went away but the audio CDs still dont play. I am back to the current stable amd64 udev-068-r1 trying to figure out what is wrong. K3B reports my CDRW drive in my laptop as a Slimtype COMBO LSC-2. I can read data CDs and DVDs fine, and play DVDs on Xine, and Kaudiocreator lets me rip the tracks off the CD, so I don't know why I can't play the CD. I have tried several CDs too, and it is the same story with all of them. At first I could only access the cd-rom drive as root, so I had to put myself in the cdrom group. Is there anything I can try? I did a chmod 666 /dev/cdrom to let the drive be available for everyone. I am currently running the 2.6.12-gentoo-r10 kernel.
Any ideas? _________________ It's all funny until someone gets hurt.

Hi,
Newer XMMS versions compile without the cdda input plugin, but you can emerge it separately as media-plugins/xmms-cdaudio.
Xine crashing sounds familiar to me. |
