Hi everybody,
I have this problem that's driving me crazy. I've been googling for days finding lots of similar problems but no answers. You guys are my last hope ... :)
I simply have two boxes, both set up to use UTF-8, one samba server, one client.
When I use smbclient or my OSX machine to connect to the server everything is well, but when I try smbmount I get problems with special characters. I can see the filenames in the mounted dir just finde, but when I can't access them.

I can then still access the file as file_with_ö, I can't access other files with special characters at all, athough they are displayed correctly.
On the server I see a little square instead of the ö. I suspect that some transformation to another charset is happening somewhere, but I have no clue where.
meassures taken:
kernel has UTF-8 NLS support
unix, display charset in smb.conf set to utf8
mounted with iocharset=utf8
and various other things that didn't make much sense to begin with.
Does anybody have /any/ ideas ... ? |

| Did you try cifs? It's supported by the samba server. See "man mount.cifs" for how to mount it. |
