|
|
Hi, since this is my first post, I am probably asking something that has already been answered, but unfortunately my searching skills are just not what they should be and I cant find an answer to this anywhere here.
Anyway, I am busy installing gentoo, going from stage 2 to stage three, having started with a stage 1. I started with the following -
Code: | emerge --emptytree system |
This broke when I got to Python which I managed to solve with the help of this forum.
Once I had emerged Python, and without thinking, I ran this again.
Code: | emerge --emptytree system |
Cancelled quickly, and ran
It carried on installing and about 60 packages and then broke saying
Code: | Resolving gentoo.mirrors.tds.net... 1.0.0.0
Connecting to gentoo.mirrors.tds.net[1.0.0.0]:80... |
This is where it hangs eventually timing out and retrying, and that is where I am stuck. I still have total connectivity to the net and can ping and links2 away to my hearts content. I have deleted the mirrors list from my make file, but that has had no effect either.
I have also rebooted, chrooted, sourced and everything else, the problem remains.
I believe my internet provider may have reset my IP during the course of the emerge, if that helps.
Anyone know how I can fix this? |

ping gentoo.mirrors.tds.net wrote: | PING gentoo.mirrors.tds.net (216.165.129.134) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from mirror1.mirrors.tds.net (216.165.129.134): icmp_seq=1 ttl=49 time=64.2 ms |
I'm not sure why you seem to be getting 1.0.0.0, but you should be able to:
Code: | echo "216.165.129.134 gentoo.mirrors.tds.net" >> /etc/hosts |
And at least get the right IP address.
I would recommend deleting this line from /etc/hosts after you have everything working and try to figure out your DNS issue, if this is the problem. _________________ Kent

Thanks for the hosts tip FreeFly42, that has at least got my emerge working again.
Im not looking forward to having to fix this apparent DNS issue though... Well, at least I dont have to do it right now |

I've got the same problem and this temporarily fixed it. Did you find out why? _________________ #267386
