|
|
Hello,
I'm installing gentoo from stage1. If I want to do emerge gentoo-sources it is complanning that there is not file. " * Unable to find kernel sources at /usr/src/linux "
The command ls -l /usr/src gifs a empty output. So no file's in there. If I try
cd /usr/src
rm linux
ln -s linux-<TAB>
there is also no options for linux-<TAB>. This is normal I think because ls -l /usr/src is and empty output.
I hope I don't hava to start over again with the installation.
Thanks for the help |

Did you try to create this synmbolic link with no target and emerge gentoo-sources again?
Just a guess, though! |

I assume that you are booting from the livecd!? So make sure you mounted your
gentoo partition and changerooted successfully!? Then try an
and then find out if you can find some sources with
Code: | emerge search sources |
If you found a kernel that fits your needs check what is required via
Code: | emerge -p <your-sources> |
and install it. _________________ A)bort, R)etry, I)nfluence with large hammer. |

When I do emerge -s sources I get a list of 20 options but non of them is installed. Is my installion fucked up or can I download the correct kernel I want to use en compile it? |

Everything you have stated all seems to point to the fact that you have not emerged gentoo-sources. As I asked you before, what happens when you "emerge gentoo-sources". Does it finish or is there an error? If there is an error, please post it.
If you want you can just take the vanilla kernel from www.kernel.org and use that. |

Please do provide more information. We have no means of telling you what is wrong as long as we are not able to read the error messages!
You could either copy the important parts by hand, or you could use Knoppix as an installation medium which would allow you to copy and paste or you do what NeddySeagoon suggested in an other thread:
NeddySeagoon wrote: |
Write command outputs to a file then copy the files to another media, like floppy.
e.g. Code: | ls -al /boot > boot.txt | creates boot.txt contating the contents of the command
On a dual boot PC, you can wtite to a FAT (FAT12/16/32) partition.
As a last resort you can reformat your swap partition as FAT32, since you won't need it until ndiswrapper is running, then turn it back to swap. With it being converted to FAT32, you can use it to pass files between Windows and Linux. |
