Okay, I've followed Gentoo's ALSA guide and get MIDI played through Timidity. It plays great. So, I added timidity service to the default using rc-update add timidity start. However, it failed to start the Timidity's virtual MIDI ports. I did ps aux | grep timidity and there is no process called timidity at all. Apparently timidity bailed out without even saying errors at all! So, I had to do "/etc/init.d/timidity zap" to force to stop it.
The Timidity++ version I installed is 2.13.2-r2. I compiled it using these flags:
Code: | +X +alsa -ao +arts +emacs +esd +flac +gtk +gtk2 +jack +motif -nas +ncurses -oss +portaudio +slang +speex +tcltk +vorbis |
I installed both shompatches and eawpatches in my system. I already did timidity-update -g -s eawpatches.
But, I've got a work around... I typed in:
Code: | timidity-update -g -s shompatches |
Followed by:
Code: | timidity-update -g -s eawpatches |
And voila! The MIDI ports showed up and the MIDI works just perfect...
Anyone has an elegant solution on this? |
