|
|
I have a keyboard problem that is really weird. When I first boot up the keyboard acts just like normal. But after a while the response time suddenly starts having a delay: there is a noticable delay between when I press a key and when the computer responds to it. This happens both in X and in the virtual terminals and applies to every key on the keyboard. Also, the numlock and capslock lights have a delay once the problem starts as well.
Along with the delay, if I'm typing faster than a certain speed keys that I press will act as if they're still held down until I press another key. To type effectively I have to type at about two or three characters a second, otherwise the false-held-down-key problem crops up very often.
I can get back to normal keyboard operation by rebooting, but after a while the problem starts again.
I don't know if anything is triggering it... I haven't found or noticed anything yet.
The problem does not appear to crop up in Windows XP.
I'm running 64-bit linux, kernel 2.6.12 r7, on an AMD64 system.
Please let me know what additional info you need.

At first glance, it would appear that you have many processes running. What are you doing on your system at the time the system stops responding to keyboard inputs? _________________ Cheers,

I'm generally running three or four things at once. Often involving an emerge. I've got a pretty fast system, though, and I've got a gig of RAM.
My mouse continues to respond just fine, along with dragging windows, scrolling with the mouse, etc. The only thing that lags is the keyboard.
Also, stopping the various programs that are running does not bring back keyboard response. Once it starts lagging it doesn't stop until I reboot. |

Oops. My bad. The problem shows up in Windows too, so it's not a Linux problem.
Damn, this makes it worse, though. I hope it's not the motherboard... |
