Is anyone using cacti to graph bandwidth utilization behind a iptables firewall?
I have found many implementation bugs on the interface (e.g you have to rebuild your data sources if you change any parameters, correct me if i´m wrong), the documentation is sparse and confusing.
I want to graph the utilization for each PC behind my MASQ router
so far i have setup a chain for each PC so i can obtain statistics from them with iptables -Xvnl , made a bash script that awk´s the result and returns the in/out bytes for the given host and used it to build a data source for it in CACTI, but i seem to be unable to make it run automatically via cmd.php (like instructed in the manual) from crontab, if i run cmd.php manually it adds the data for all the remaining data sources but fails to obtain the data from my script, it shows no data on the graph at all, anyone has experience using it or can reccomend a better tool ? |

I've used cacti and cricket together. I found the interface was a little difficult to setup (with 15+ hosts monitoring 15+ datapoints). But once done was rather pleasant to use.
If you want data collection and graphing (without the user roles) then I can recommend cricket just by it's self. Quick, simple to setup and rather modular - it's really easy to run your own scripts etc. It is pretty much MRTG with a better config file management and using RRDTool.
