hi
i have this problem when i start X it crashes and drops out this error:
Code:

(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/mouse
                               No such file or directory
(EE) Mouse1: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device

i have wnet throu xorgconfig several times,tried every mouse settings but nothing works,
but at the same time, in console, with gpm my mouse works fine! 8O

Can anyone help me?

try in your xorg.conf:
/dev/input/mice

I just did a fresh Gentoo 2005.1 install and encountered the same problem as eldzis. Scorpaen's suggestion worked perfectly for me. Just thought I'd mention this in case others encountered this same problem.

Sometimes it's not obvious which device the mouse gets attached to. Something I've done in the past is to cat the device

> cat /dev/mouse

and then move the mouse around and see if you get some gobbledygook.
