Hi. I'm trying to get a Netgear WG311T wireless PCI card to work. It's got an Atheros chipset, so I've emerged madwifi-driver, baselayout, and sharutils. I've also emerged both wireless-tools and wpa_supplicant, and I've tried configuring each of them as per http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.0/handbook-x86.xml?part=4&chap=4, but neither has had ANY affect on how things are working.

I added the wlan module to my startup, (isn't wlan the madwifi driver module? Or should I be loading a different driver?) but after loading that driver, my output of iwconfig still doesn't show anything. /dev/ath0 just doesn't exist, even though the output of "emerge madwifi-driver" said that it would be created. (I found a net.ath0 script written by Faye Pearson at the wiki for madwifi, but it doesn't help when the device doesn't actually exist.)

So what am I supposed to do next? I've searched the web and forums high and low, but the information is REALLY scattered. Can anybody please just give really basic, step-by-step, generic instructions? And if the instructions are too generic for my system, then I'll at least learn what to be more specific about?

Thanks!
