|
|
I recently had the VMWare 5.0-r1 but when a emerge world happened I suddenly had 5.0-r2 and it broke it. So I went along and managed to get it going again with the add to vmware group, but when I rebooted to grab last minute windows partition information it stopped. I have sense removed everything from vmware including vmware itself besides my vmx files. I reemerge no problem. But when I get to vmware_configure.pl I get:
Code: |
/opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl
Making sure services for VMware Workstation are stopped.
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 1010: [: -: integer expression expected
/etc/vmware/init.d/vmware: line 933: [: -: integer expression expected
Stopping VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor failed
Unable to stop services for VMware Workstation
Execution aborted.
|
And no etc/init.d/vmware is not started and won't until I configure it. There are no current vmware processes running.
Help?

OK so now it worked magically after a reboot. But failed during starting services:
Code: |
The module loads perfectly in the running kernel.
Starting VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor failed
Virtual ethernet failed
Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background) done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background) done
NAT service on /dev/vmnet8 done
The configuration of VMware Workstation 5.0.0 build-13124 for Linux for this
running kernel completed successfully.
You can now run VMware Workstation by invoking the following command:
"/opt/vmware/bin/vmware".
Enjoy,
--the VMware team
|
then
Code: |
/etc/init.d/vmware start
* Starting VMware services: [ ok ]
* Virtual machine monitor [ !! ]
* Virtual ethernet [ !! ]
* Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 [ !! ]
* Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background) [ ok ]
* Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background) [ ok ]
* NAT service on /dev/vmnet8

typing vmware starts up but in root and user results in 3 errors:
Quote: |
Could not open /dev/vmmon: Is a directory.
Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.
|
Quote: |
Failed to initialize monitor device.
|
and last but not least
Quote: |
Unable to change virtual machine power state: Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to.
|
I have searched the forums vigourisly and turned up the repetitive /etc/init.d/vmware stop, configure, start
and the now famous rm not_configured |

I don't know if I feel stupid or what but I had kernel-2.6.10-r6 and upgraded to kernel-2.6.12-r10 and reemerged vmware-workstation and ran vmware-configure.pl and magically tada!!!!
I just don't know anymore.
Can anyone hold me down while I kick myself in the balls? |

I had the same exact problem the first time I upgraded kernels when I had vmware running nicely under an older kernel.
Just remember to run the /opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl script again after each kernel upgrade. You won't need to re-emerge vmware-workstation. _________________ There are three types of people in the world...those that can count and those that can't. |
