Hi all,

I emerged Xorg-X11 followed by the starter package of KDE. Both have been successfully compiled. When I do a startx, X-11 starts up (actually is gives me a mouse not found error, af which I found a solution in the threads below). I want kde to start up instead of X-11. What do I do? I'm a bit scared to remove x-11 because I noticed that kde used a lot of X-11 libraries. Is there any way to switch envoirnments to kde, without having to remove x-11?

Thanks,

S-N (Noob) :)

Don't remove X11 at all, it's needed by KDE as by all other desktop managers. Take a look at this guide

Mate,

I keep getting this error when I type startx:
Code:
could not start kmserver. Check your installation

This is at the KDE initialization screen. What is km server?

Did this fix it? No response from the person who posted the error?

I don't think it's the same problem. Try to look at
Code:
.xsession-errors

file under the home of the user you start x with.
