Hello.
just emerged vmware. i created a new virtual machine and when traying to set power On the followin error comes up:

Code:
Unable to change virtual machine power state: Failed to connect to peer process.


any suggestions?

With the newest release of vmware, you have to add your user to the vmware group.

Also, make sure you have loaded the vmware kernel modules with "/etc/init.d/vmware start" and to configure vmware with "vmware-config.pl".

i added my user to the group ( editin '/etc/group' is all right ? ) and i ran '/etc/init.d/vmware' start but the same error keeps coming up.
couldn't find 'vmware-config.pl'

I've got the same problem. I've ran the config and added myself to no avail.

edit.

running as root works fine.

hadn't tried that. running like root does seem to work.

how do i add my user to vmware group then? or what other group is needed?

the vmware configuration program is:

/opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl

I forgot, you also have to do:

Code:
chmod u+s /opt/vmware/lib/bin/vmware-vmx


to setuid root on vmware-vmx or it just won't run with this latest ebuild.

I had to set read permissions for group on both vmware and vmware-vmx.
