hello everybody

i want to build a a/b/g access point like discribed in gentoo-wiki with a pci card based on the intersil prism54 duette chipset, since this driver is in the kernel
now http://prism54.org/supported_cards.php tells me, that there is just one such pci card, the smc 2802w.
well, it's okay for me to use this card, since it is very cheap, but as i found out there are two revisions of this card, and just rev.1 uses this chipset, rev.2 a completely different.
i live in austria, middle europe, and here virtually all distributors are just "online shops" where i cannot just call somebody and tell him: "can you please take a look on the box and tell me if you read rev.1 or rev.2"
so, does anybody know a trusted source for such cards?
i believe somebody could have had this problem before me, since this card in the only one (at least that i know) that has a build-in kernel driver and supports a/b/g in a pci form factor
thanks in advance
alex

I myself use a PCI wireless card that uses a ralink rt2500 chipset, for which open-source drivers exist, even though they are not (yet) in the kernel. Maybe they are easier to get...

that's okay
thanks for the answer
but does this card support "master mode"? i believe this is what would make it be able to act as a access point
do you use it for being a client or a access point or hotspot or whatever the right word for it is?
kind regards
alex
