Alright, I reinstalled on a different hard drive no kernel errors until I get to this kernel panic message
Kernel panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on 03:03
grub has no problem seeing the partition and can even find files on it.
I am using a ReiserFS (just the way I wrote it in /etc/fstab )partition and built the module directly into the kernel.
dev directory support is alsa build into the kernel, (it was already configured that way)
This is the same drive and the same configuration I used with the rc_2 iso, and it worked.
It is sunday night and I have reinstalled on three different occasions, build about five or six kernels and gone from no tweaking to tweaking for safety.
I need more weekend to figure this out but I don't have it, if someone out there has some idea where I should look to find out more about what is going on please let me know. _________________ there is no crazy, only violet and non violet.. |

Please see: kernel panic or Kernel panic: VFS unable to mount root fs. They both deal with reiserfs and mounting on boot. The first one is your the first thread you created on this topic. The second one is extremely similar, but the poster has decided to reinstall and thus it may not be 100% perfect for you to follow. Of course, there are several other VFS unable to mount root fs threads if you are willing to search deeper for an answer. Please do not double, (or quadruple) post. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
