When I play counter-strike in winex, it changes the resolution of my monitor to 800x600, and I do not want this. So I took out all screen resolutions (other than 1024x768) in my XF86Config file.

This should have only left 1024x768 as the ONLY monitor option. But...
When I do #xrandr:
SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
*0 1024 x 768 ( 321mm x 241mm ) *75 70 60
1 800 x 600 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85 75 72 60 56
2 832 x 624 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 74
3 640 x 512 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 60
4 640 x 480 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85 75 72 60
5 720 x 400 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85
6 640 x 400 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85
7 640 x 350 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85
8 512 x 384 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 75 70 60
9 416 x 312 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 74
10 400 x 300 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85 75 72 60 56
11 320 x 240 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85 75 72 60
12 320 x 200 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85
13 320 x 175 ( 321mm x 241mm ) 85

Where do all of these screen sizes come from? They aren't in my XF86Config file!! Most importantly...how do I get rid of them? Oh yea, im using xfree 4.3.0

Well I am specifically avoiding the hard question here because I have no idea and would love to know the answer, so I hope someone knows.

However, have you tried to setup your config in the game itself to run at the desired resolution? I know that's all I had to do to get counter-strike working perfectly in wine. I also specifically have 800X600 in my config as a defined mode given I need it when I play Diablo2 (which is never anymore given it is unplayable now, which is another thread all together.)

Regards,

Yea, the game play plays in 1024x768, but the menu resolution is 640x480

For some reason sometimes when I exit the game and it changes the resulution back to 1024x768 (after being in the menu's 640x480) it'll freeze X! So I was thinking: solution--dont let winex change resulotion.

I was able to get rid of all those other extentions, and I did that by enabling tv-out for my nvidia card in my XF86Config file. Dont know why that effected it...
