But I need to know... how can I wipe the disk on my computer if Gentoo doesn't boot and neither does the live CD? I put in the CD but nothing happens. |

nothing? something has to happen....
try checking if your BIOS is set to boot from CD before the hard drive. _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)

I already did.
Oh and, not "nothing" happens, it goes to the Gentoo boot screen (which, again, doesn't work) but it doesn't seem to be recognizing the live CD. |

How exactly did you manage to install Gentoo if you can't boot from the Live CD?
And to answer your question: yes you can format the disk (just use any live cd or OS install cd).
If by 'wipe' you mean SECURELY (more so than a format at least) wipe the drive, then you would need to use a live cd and then dd /dev/random stuff onto the drive (dd /dev/zero also works nice). If what you use has a shred utility that would be easier than using dd on the disk. |

The live CD worked at first, long enough for me to install it and stuff, but then it decided to die on me. |

Have you checked your BIOS boot-order settings? Have you tried a different livecd such as KNOPPIX? _________________ "Mr Thomas Edison has been up on the two previous nights discovering 'a bug' in his phonograph." --Pall Mall Gazette (1889)
