When my laptop boots up and net.eth0 is run, dhcpcd sits there for like a minute before failing -- but I know nothing's wrong with my network.

- If I type ifconfig, lo shows up and that's it.
- If I type ifconfig eth0 up, my eth0 interface shows up without an IP.
- If I type dhcpcd eth0, it'll get its IP.

Then, all's good.

So in other words, that net.eth0 script is useless crap. How can I get it to work the first time? It's just plain annoying.

No it isn't. One minute is the default timeout... it seems that your machine (dhcpcd) is not happy talking to a (the) DHCP server.

Can you post your config and tell us about the network environment and software versions?

Never mind -- it works nicely now (usually about 4 seconds :) )
