I have a new Gentoo box with KDE installed. The desktop comes up but the buttons do not work. They simply do nothing when I click on them. Emerge -pDu kde-meta says that there is nothing to emerge. How can I work on this problem?

just a shot, but could it be you configured a windows-like behaviour and need to double-click them? (don't actually know what you mean with button)...

Thanks for the reply. But it doesn't matter how many clicks; nothing happens. And it doesn't matter which mouse button. The cursor does respond to the mouse so X is seeing my mouse. And I can exit with Ctl-Alt-Backspace. But KDE does nothing after showing the desktop. |

FYI, if you setup the xconfig.org file with Xinerama, but not just right, all output can go to one screen but as if it were 2 screens. So as you move the mouse across the left boundry it comes back in on the right boundry. Only one screen is visible but the mouse "sees" the objects on the other screen and the actions are not consistent with what you see. Very weird. |
