I'm using kernel 2.6.13 and trying out the software suspend functionality. Everything seems to be ok except for a slight quirk:

When suspending or resuming, the hard drives and the network interface cards are (needlessly?) powered up and down. When suspending, first it stops all processes, then it stops all hard drives, stars dumping system memory, then powers up all hard drives, saves the image, powers down. When resuming, after the kernel has loaded it first shuts down all hard drives, then powers them back up and loads the image.

Is there some way to get rid of this behavior? Does software suspend 2 fix this problem? (I'm using swsup 1 included with the kernel).

I had the same problem, couldnt fix it, now I dont use suspend anymore because that powering up/down everytime isnt really that good for my 3 harddisks...

Until suspend2 proves to be more stable, and its standard in the kernel 2.6, I will not use it.

:(

I have been having the same problem. There were several posts about it back in June or so, with lots of suggestions for setting various hard drive and caching options, but no solution arose.

I'd prefer not to touch my harddisk settings since they are greatly configured to be fast
What about that suspend option in main vanilla kernel? CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND or something,
Isnt that something like suspend2? But I doubt it will work better then suspend2.
