after installing KDE and setting it up to use the graphical logon when i shutdown using KDE and then boot up again the network will not work as in it is uable to use dhcpcd or whteva to get my ip address from the router. now it would seem if i just hit the restart button or don't shut down properly then the network will work correctly at startup. was there something i missed in the install of KDE. i a n00b with linux atm so its definately possible.

I am at a loss why KDE would cause something like this. Perhaps it just seems so.

What is the output when you do:(replace net.eth0 according to your system)
Code:
/etc/init.d/net.eth0  restart

Do you see a difference in boot messages (error/warnings) during the ways you have restarted the system? (ie. restart button, Shutdown via Kde restart/shutdown)

that works fine there was no failure for it. is there a log file for bootup of the dhcpcd because on a failed bootup that might show something. however i have no idea where to find or how to set it up.

That happens sometimes. Glad it worked out. Please put SOLVED in Subject line.
