Hi,
The ALSA volume sliders on my box *besides* the Master operate in a strange way: You can go from zero to full volume within half the slider's length... and then it would start over at zero and go up to full a second time. Everything sounds normal if you keep to the lower half of the slider, sound is distorted in the upper half, like when playing much too loud on a crappy stereo (but the absolute volume level is normal otherwise). This is also true for the volume controls within apps, like XMMS or GnomeRadio.
Have been suffering from this since I upgraded to 2005.0 with kernel 2.6.12... the old 2.4.26 setup with external ALSA ran fine on the very same hardware (Aureal Vortex II). Already tried disabling all the OSS features (disabled OSS & OSS emulation in the kernel, rebuilt the entire system with USE="-oss", /etc/conf.d/alsasound has ENABLE_OSS_EMUL="no"), so I hope my system should be as pure ALSA as can be... still no luck.
Any ideas? TIA! |
