I just tried emerge -av quake3, and it has nvidia-glx as a dependency (which then requires nvidia-kernel)... Why is this? Does the game require an nvidia graphics card? I have a matrox g450. Does it really need nvidia stuff to work?

I run quake3 with my ATI some time ago, so i really dont see why it hould depend on nvidia.
When i do emerge -vp quake3 , dont get anything related to nvidia. |

I've poked around with a few ebuilds, and have a basic understand of how they work... but this ebuild's dependencies baffle me:
Code: |
RDEPEND="virtual/libc
opengl? ( virtual/opengl
virtual/x11 )
dedicated? ( app-misc/screen )
amd64? (
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs
opengl? (
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs
|| ( >=media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r3
>=media-video/ati-drivers-8.8.25-r1 ) ) )"
|
It almost looks like that means "If it's on amd64 and if the opengl use flag is set then you need emul-linux-x86-libs OR both nvidia-glx and at-drivers." But that doesn't really make sense. I am on amd64 and I do have the opengl use flag set. I do have emul-linux-x86-xlibs installed, but neither of nvidia-glx or at-drivers. |

nice as in closed ? doh
I really don't get your point. Just because nvidia is the only way to get decent performance on linux doesn't mean it's nice at all. Binary drivers are hell. |
