Little help with iptables

Howdy
well ive been going through this howto http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Iptables_for_newbies
and ive gotten stuck with iptables. I have enabled iptables and everything that is a sub category in kernal config but it says iptables fails to load at boot.

Also something ive noticed in comparing my comp to the tutorial is that iptables-save doesn't spit out anything.

Any suggestions would be cool.
