|

I have a particularly annoying problem with mozilla 1.3b. When I load a web page like this one http://www.linuxberg.at/internet/callerid.html I get a message that pops up that says "Alert: The document contains no data."
What's the deal with that? Is it a javascript problem or something? It happens on all sorts of websites. [edit]More specifically it happens when trying to load the pictures from ads.tucows.com. I'm going to check my hosts file, I had it set up to redirect ad sites to 127.0.0.1 and make sure that's not the problem[/edit]. |

alright, editing the /etc/hosts file and removing
127.0.0.1 ads.tucows.com
did the trick. But now the question is how do I block annoying ads without having to install additional software? |

Right click the image, and select Block Images from this Server.
There's also a small addon program for Mozilla which does banner ad filtering which you may not be able to get via the image blocking (like those at images.slashdot.org which also loads the other images for the site). Forget the name offhand, but just search MozDev a little and it should show up. |

mozdev is really nice, I got the middle mouse click scrolling plugin from there, and leech is just awesome for Windows, but in Linux it messes the browser up so that any user besides root can't even open the browser. |
