|
|
Hi,
I'm quite new to Linux and I've managed to install gentoo (stage3 install). Now I'm trying to add KDE, I've emerged Xorg fine but when I emerge kde it failed on kdebase. So I googled and noticed that I should emerge kde-meta. However, I still get an error and the install fails on kdebase/kvoc something - having looked at the apps list I think its kvoctrain.
I'm not sure but I think the error comes from libstdc++-v3. I emerge searched for this and its not installed - when I tried to emerge it said it was masked by ~x86
I'm not sure if that helps or is a red herring on my part, but any ideas / advice what I need to do to get up and running ? (dont forget I'm a gentoo newbie! )

I followed the tips here:
Another Emerge Error Thread
- ran fix_libtool_files.sh until "gcc-config -l" showed no references to the old, evil libstdc++ library
- ran an emerge -e system
- ran an emerge -e system again (a post I read at one point made this suggestion, once to clean the tools, second to clean any library references)
- ran an emerge --unmerge kde
- ran an emerge --depclean
- ran an emerge kde-meta
A simpler solution I've just found looking for that post! (sods law! )
