Hello,

I am installing Gentoo RC3 and have some problems:

after processed 46 files, the system stops doing scripts/bootstraps

error is:
* (green) switching to i686-pc-linx-gnu-3.2.2 compiler [ok]

* (yellow) if you intend to use gcc from the new profile in an already running shell, please remember to do: source /etc/profile

/usr.bin/python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory
* (red) fix_libtool_files.sh: /sys-devel/gcc/files/awk/fixlafiles.awk does not exist!

and when i do: emerge portage
the error: python2.2:error while loading share libraries: libstdc++.so.5: canot open shared object file: no such file or directory.

Well, it's sad. I have absolutely the same problem trying many times to install rc3 with the same error results. Of cause, it's possible to copy any libstdc++.so.5 file to /usr/lib but it isn't a blameless solution and I'd like to knowe is there anybody to show the way?
Thanks, Vadim

Hi, Markie.
It seems to me that I've found a reason of the installation errors. My mistake was that I untared all three stages tarballs during an installation. It's wrong. As I understand now only one stage is required for an installation. The shortest way to install gentoo is to use stage3 tarball, the longest but good for system optimisation - stage1 tarball, the stage2 - medium. Geting the conclusion I/ve made the installation using the only stage1 tarball and following the instruction without any problems. I suspect that your errors have the same roots. Try again carefully follawing the installation instraction and everything'll be ok. Good luck.
