It's been a long time, but now I have some free time to finish my music box project.

It started some years ago with DOS and an old 486. Almost a year ago I bought an EPIA Mini-ITX board plus a Compact-Flash-to-IDE adapter. Goal: Create a silent CD/DVD/USBStick player which can play almost every format. My plan was to use NoXMMS with a 20x4 character LCD as "GUI". For the controls I wanted to dismantle an old keyboard and use its controller for an own switch layout.

Last week I could prepare an old amplifier case to hold all necessary parts as shown in following picture:

But regarding the large number of songs which could be stored on a single DVD a character LCD is not a clever way for a user interface. Therefore I'm looking for a small (cheap) touchscreen.

After some recherches on the net I came across Lilliput touchscreens (7" and 8"), which seem to be supported in Linux.

1.) Is this true, can I use such a display in a Gentoo system without a X-Server? I'd like to use SVGALib resp. SDL for the GUI. I've seen two topics, but they provide rather little information.

2.) Where can I find these displays here in Europe, preferably in Germany?

The liliput touchscreens work from what I've heard also, I think they use the eGalax touchscreen driver, which is in the kernel under USB support.

You most likely will have to run an X-Server to get it to work properly, I did it that way ... but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Check eBay, thats where I got my touchscreen, the one I got says it's a TM-868 8" touchscreen, and it works for me under linux with the eGalax kernel module. it was only like $170 including shipping.
