|
|
Hey everybody,
I'm setting up a small network for a project at school. So far I have 2 Windows machines going, and networked. Now I'm trying to install Gentoo on the 3rd machine. During setup I try to ping Google. It won't go through giving me the unkown host error, but I can ping the other two computer on the network. Does anybody know a workaround or something? |

Well, this is totally subject to how your network is setup. How are the windows boxes connected to the network? Do they connect directly to your school's network? I am guessing that you are trying to connect your gentoo box THROUGH a windows box
Code: |
|----Windows Computer 1
Wall |
|----Windows Computer 2-------Gentoo Box

hub | Windows 2000 Server
| Gentoo 2005.1

Can you ping the gateway? Do you have DNS servers in your /etc/resolv.conf? Did you setup the gateway? Is there a default route? Is there a proxy? Firewall?
I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ btw, just brainstorming some possible problems.

Well, I think the first question to ask is "how are the windows boxes set up?" If they are DHCP, then you probably just need to run dhcpcd. If they are static, then you probably need your network info (ip, netmask, gateway, etc) from the person who hands out that stuff. _________________ Amatures built the Ark, professionals built the Titanic |
