Mmmk...
Story:
I wanted to copy an archive over to my windows partition(hda2). So, I type "cp /home/jonny/MMPack.tar.gz /dev/hda2". I now realize that I overwrote the device and I can't dual boot windows.
Any help will greatly appreciated. |

u were supposed to mount the partition like so:
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/windows
you can't write to an ntfs partition, so if you have that, then you're out of luck. _________________ John5788 |

Hi,
you're doomed ... (... to reinstall Windows, or to consult a data rescueing company).

This is why you do as little as possible as root user. You couldn't have done that as a normal user. You will need professional data recovery to get the maximum amount of data back, but depending on how big that file was that you copied over, you have lost a certain amount of data. |

I am dead serious about this.

I dont believe that this will help at all, but you might want to consult the HP Support webpages about that or call HP Support directly.

I figure this is generally the same topic so I'm posting it here instead of a new topic.
If I mount my ntfs(hdb) to /mnt/ntfs. Then accidently copying something to /mnt/ntfs wouldn't do anything, to mess it up I'd have to do a copy to /dev/hdb correct? Unless of course the drive was mounted, but in that case I can't write cause ntfs isn't writable. |
