Hello all... this is essentially my first dealings with Linux (years back I dual booted 2k and red-hat, but didn't go anywhere with it). I realize it's a difficult distro to handle, but I enjoy throwing things around my apartment in a fit of rage, namely my girlfriend :D.

Anyhow, I just got a stage 3 install to complete and to the point of creating a user besides root. After that, I'm completely lost. I can't seem to figure out how to get a DM started. In my rc.conf(I believe that was the file) I uncommented xsession=gnome and still I get no where.

I was under the assumption that a stage 3 install/universal cd would supply numerious softwares including DM's. Maybe there just residing somewhere and not acutally installed? I'm not sure...

Lastly, I'm installing on a single SATA drive and not dual booting so once we part ways here I'll gone for quit a bit :D, so feel free to be overly detailed because, I'm not sure I can handle installing windows to talk with you guys again. It may just stay

EDIT: I can recall most my settings like make.conf/rc.conf etc if it's helpful. I was pretty strickt in following the handbook I printed subbing only hda for sda and grub for lilo...

EDIT 2: Do I have to do this after the Stage 3? http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gnome-config.xml

yes, after every stage (1, 2 even 3) You must install X serwer and DM (kde, gmome, xfce4 ...). So, do it -> url is good. maybe this??
Code:
emerge gnome-light
- light version of gnome i think (it might be interesting :) )

ty so much for your time... I'll be giving it another stab shortly. One last question though. The guide was very underrated to have at your side while installing, especially for first timer. But one thing was left unclear.

In the fstab file, if you have more than one cdrom should you make 2 entries - one for each? kinda like

/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom auto blah blah blah
/dev/cdroms/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom auto blah blah blah

after this i'm out for another crack at this :D. O, you didn't mention if I'll have a browser or not?

Well... seems all went well install base gentoo with X11/Gnome.

I just need some help learning how to configure devices and add driver support for them. During the add modules part of the install, I steared clear (handbook didn't go into much detail about). Any info for that would be great.
