Hey guys,
Firstly I apologise for the anger in my writing...I have just made a nice dent in my box due to the latest lovely release of ndiswrapper!
Background:
Got pissed off with windows for the 'last time' about a month ago, decided to try gentoo coz it looked nice. worked nice too internet and all with wireless lan using ndiswrapper-1.3 and my Belkin F7000UK rev02, until it crashed. Couldnt be bothered to spend another week getting it running nice so installed win2k, which has sinced driven me to the end of my will to live and have decided to give gentoo another try.
Current Situation:
YAY! Working gentoo, in less than 3 hours I have a desktop!!!!
Now I find that ndiswrapper has a new version, namely 1.4, so I'm thinking 'yay, nice stabler version' (not that there was anything wrong with 1.3). So I install ndiswrapper but N00B I used the drivers from the cd which it specifically tells you NOT to do on the wiki list.
OK, that would explain the problems with Code: | modprobe ndiswrapper | crashing my system.
However, I have tried EVERYTHING to get rid of the drivers from the CD and replace them with the ones it says to use on the wiki list...still Code: | modprobe ndiswrapper | grinds my system to a halt.
I would very much appreciate any help you guys could offer since I have a baseball bat in the corner of my room thats looking mighty tempting to me atm.
Cheers

Try not to fool portage tree, only 1.2 is marked "stable" on x86, so nothing to complain about if you're using 1.4 (also have a look at various other threads 'bout ndiswrapper where most of them had problems when upgrading ndiswrapper to >1.2) So I recommend to use the portage tree and only assume that a package is stable if it has a green plus-sign in it's version row. (I ran into the same problems after trying cvs release) |

sound advice....but the whole point of me getting wireless to work on my computer is so that i can download ebuilds
i'm having to use my pathetic little dial-up laptop to make these posts.
things would be a damn sight easier if the wonderful developer of ndiswrapper archived his previous versions! if anyone does have the tars of any previous versions or know where i can get them this info would b very much appreciated
i would also like to point out that on the ndiswrapper website, 1.4 is marked up as stable! |
