Hello everyone. First I will explain some of the past so that it makes the present a bit more understandable and removes some questions.
I recently had my 120gb hard drive fail on me. So, I bought four 80gb drives and put them into RAID5. I have yet to add in the fourth one. So right now it's just three until i get my system running right. (I'll add the fourth one later.) So, my 120gb drive still works. I copied all data successfully, but I did a fresh install of gentoo onto the array just for the sake of cleanness. I used the same .config file for my kernel, and make.conf file for emerge. I have the same packages installed now that I did before. I modified the kernel only to add support for RAID. The kernel is now .13, where previously it was .12. However, at bootup, I get this message:

PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:01:00.0 (pretty sure that's my agp)
PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #0:100000000@e0000000 for 0000:01:00.0
PCI: Bridge: 0000:00:01.0 <io window, mem window, prefetch window hex>
PCI: Bridge: 0000:00:1e.0 <more info like previously>

Now, this makes no sense to me, considering virtually nothing has changed on my system. When I try to start xorg with the same old xorg.conf that I used to use, witht he saem hardware config and all, it blanks all of my screens, and if I try to do any type of keyboard command, it hardlocks the comp and I have to hard reboot. I can't even check Xorg.0.log, because the program terminates prematurely and does not write the log file. I have only achieved a written log file when I used xorgcfg. Xorgcfg did not work either, I might add.

X -scanpci has no clue what any of my hardware's chipsets are, but it knows the controller or device manufacturer. For example, my ATi card is shown as an unknown chipset and unkown card by ATi Technologies Inc. lspci displays all of my devices correctly, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

It should be noted that I use three monitors. I have an S3 Virge DX/GX, which is primary in BIOS and is where my consoles are displayed, and then I have a Radeon 9200 SE AGP card. I have already tried temporarily removing gensplash in case of driveri conflicts, and I still get the same error. Radeon drivers are compiled * into my kernel, and the correct modules are loaded for DRI and GLX support. Since I used the same .config for my kernel, I don't understand why I would need to change anything, unless the .13 kernel is drastically different in this matter. Please also note that I am not _upgrading_ my kernel, since this is a new install. Nothing is being upgraded. It is all fresh, but just using a couple of my major configs from the old install to speed up the work. If any more information is required, just ask and I will provide it. If you all would like me to paste my dmesg, lspci, X -scanpci, or any other info, let me know and I'll try to do so. I'll have to use a textbased browser, but oh well. This is my freebsd box here...

Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,

David

I am having the same problem now. I just upgraded to Modular X, which is "stable" now and, all of a sudden, X hangs big time. No log records here either.

I use one Intel 82865G (integrated) and a ATI Radeon 7000/VE with dual monitor outputs. When I remove the "Screen" options for the ATI card from the "ServerLayout" section, at least the X server starts with one screen.

If you ever solved this problem, a little help would be greatly appreciated. :(
