|
|
Hi guys
I have very (VERY) strange problem. I did the following:
1. I installed Windows XP.
2. I installed Gentoo (amd64).
3. Everything was OK. Then my Win XP crashed (but this is another story).
4. Anyway I wanted to install a new one, but:
The windows installation CD doesn't work anymore! After command "checking hardware..." the screen goes black and nothing happens anymore.
This is not caused by my CD drive or CD. I have tried many of them.
I have found this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/295701.
So this is also problem of Gentoo?
The funny thing is that I havn't changed my partitions since 3 years, but yes, I use ext3.
The bad thing is that on my Windows I had NTFS so the solution from this URL doesn't work for me :/
Do anybody has enogh knowledge to help me?

Have you tried other Windows cd's? - maybe this one is broken.
What about linux livecd's? Do they boot? |

Sure thing. I tested several of them. What is strange, that when I change disk in this machine, everything works fine. It must be something messed up with partition table. |

Thanks, but the result is that my data & linux will be lost. This is seriously not what I want, because my linux is fine - I don't want to loose him .
Btw. I have used lilo for several years and now just after move to grub sth with MBR broke up :/. Maybe I should deinstall grub and install lilo? What do you think? |

This is a great un-documented feature of gentoo! You should be happy, it's doing you a favour! _________________ -Raf |

Take the boot flag off the Linux partition - isn't needed or used.
The Windows boot-loader barfs if more than one is set - although it only checks the primary partitions (last time I looked). Would not be surprised to have the installer CD also check - and it will install to a logical, so *maybe* it checks everything.
Simple change - try and let us know. |

Thank you very much syg00! Now it works!
It was so simple, but I would never think of it. |
