Hey Guys,
Just a really quick question, Im still alittle new with linux, i've been messing with it for a few years now. I usually use a distrobution of Linux that is quite easy to install, but I want to move up alittle now and install Gentoo. The install is a lot more manual than automatic, but anyways the only thing I need to know at this point is after I partition hda, im suppose to make each partition a certain file system. When I run make2fs /dev/hda2, I get a message basically saying unknown command. Im still at the livecd prompt to, I think that has something to do with it, how do I get off that prompt and to the one where I can go on with installing Gentoo. Thanks |

Some tips... don't bother eith ext3 for your boot partition.... make it small.. around 50MB and use ext2 and MAKE SURE IT:S COMPAILED INTO YOUR KERNEL!!!!!
You need at least 3 partitions, one boot, swap, and root. First time... make a home directory. Make it large so that if your comp managed to kill itself you can salvage something. If anything back stuff up on home and if you need to kill your root partition you can do it easily. I have done this at least 10 times... don't even ask why... just seems to happen to me. But the 10th time was the charm. Also if you have enough HD space have a /usr/portage, makes syncing much nicer, make it large though as /usr/portage/distfiles is where all of your crap that you emerge gets put. You can change this option... and yes RTGDFM! |
