first off all: dear gentoo forum admins!
this *is* a gentoo related subject, it has *nothing* todo with knoppix or whatever, so *please* dont move or delete this thread (again).
-------snip-------
hi!
since some time now i have been working on a gentoo based livedvd aimed as desktop system for scientific users (among others). The target is to create a full blown desktop to be used by ppl who have never dealt with linux or derivates before.
i am currently working on the release canditate 3 and i expect it to be finished somewhere around end of november.
gnome 2.12 is default window manager (autologin), 3d acceleration should work out of box except for ati based cards. (radeon7000-7500 do work
current kernel-2.6.13-r3
filesystem size: ~11gb
why am i posting this?
i would like to make this dvd as complete as possible in terms of packages. if you find packages not included in the "package.list" (2127 packages at the moment) it will be appreciated alot if you post them here!
thanks in advance!

One thing you should focus on in my opinion is simply getting this to be a simple LiveDVD that will boot up and open into the WM of choice, and work easily if this is for those with no experience. Focus your package managment on that first. Then target it toward your audience with the software packages they would need. this is of course my opinion, I would personally love a gentoo liveDVD that works like Knoppix, and was targeted to what I need on the go. The option for a usb home file would be desireable to me. _________________ [Owner/Operator: Dhampir Dreams]

How about gPHPEdit?
<bias>Purely because it'd be cool to have my app on a LiveDVD</bias>

Cool, thank you.
Now I just need to wait for the latest release version to be in Portage...

Yo hey add cgoban2 and panda-glgo(this one's not in portage).
And did you think about that config from usb stuff?
Ow and for some reason my school's 3com gigabit NiC's aren't auto installed. I can make an interface and load the module manually but you know... gotta bitch about something
I hope the update is done soon i really love this dvd... i still use the old one when im @ school. _________________ Dont bother running,

cgoban2 i have added to the compile schedule, stuff which is not in portage will not be included yet (except for scientific stuff)
yes its intented to be installed on the harddisk (copy dvd contents to empty partition -> configure grub -> finished)
usb stick integration should be finished soon (a collegue is working on that). the 3com gigabits should be autodetected on the new version i guess
however: i still dont know what to do with license issues, i still didnt get around to check those things out. as long as i am uncertain about the legal issues i wont be able to relase the dvd in public. but maybe this process will speed up until november
p.s: since this topic is moved again (this time into unsupported software), i wont keep this thread alive for long i guess. gentoo-chat is much more visited than "unsupported software" and since the goal of this thread is to reach as many ppl as possible to find missing software it doesnt make much sence in here. _________________ Gentoos are the fastest underwater swimming birds, reaching speeds of 36 km/h (22.3 mph).

your not making money from it so they shouldn't bitch about lisences!
