|
|
Hey guys,
I've been using Gentoo for over a year.
Anyway, today I discovered a problem which i cant solve.
I tried to install Gentoo on some old Duron 900 Mhz PC. However I always get an error at this stage:
- Bios does recoginize the CDRom correctly (its an around 2 years old cd burner)
- PC does boot from CDRom and says something like "Welcome to Gentoo, press enter to boot"
- I press enter and it's working a few seconds get for roughly 1 second some error message in a red window and then the PC restarts
This happens with all CDRoms I try to boot from, but the maschine is still capable to boot from the old Win98 which is on the HD. Anyway when I try to access a CDRom from Win98 the same happens. I can access the CDrom for a few seconds and then it restarts ...
I hope somebody can help me ... |

If you have a spare cdrom lying around I would try it if it works with that... The problem could be the cdrom itself or your ide controller on which the cdrom is. I am guessing your hard drive and the cd rom are on separate IDE controllers? _________________ Power is about what you can control. Freedom is about what you can unleash. |

Sounds very much like a hardware problem. Try another cdrom drive. You can also try the cd in another machine to rule out that the cd is the problem. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
