KDE sound error

still fairly new to gentoo,i recently installed kde and everytime i start it up i get an error saying
" sound server informational message:
error while intializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device)
the sound server will continue, using the null output device"

any ideas of how to fix this problem? thx

You haven't setup your sound card.
