safe tuning with hdparm for sata drives?

Hi,

I don't know a clue about harde drive tuning...

I've four SATA drives (Hitachi 250GB) on 2 SATA card (SIL3112) on which i'll build a RAID 5.
System is on a 120GB drive (hda), raid is just for data safe purpose, but extra perf won't be too much

I've made 'hdparm /dev/sdX' for each drives, i've read there's default option.

Is it suffisient to optmize perf or there's better thing to do for my case?

I think you need sdparm for sata drives. It's in portage.

There is nothing to optimise for SATA yet.

Just make sure your drives and chipset are not a combination blacklisted by the kernel.
They will still work but performace has beed reduced to get aound bugs in the hardware that casue data loss.
