mute/low volume sound after startup

Since switching from gnome (never really used it) to e17, my sound is always turned low when booting up the laptop and logging in. I've tried to search the forums, but I have not evend been able to find similar issues.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this is so?

Have you tried alsamixer? I just set my volume levels in that, and then it reloads them on boot.
