I deleted the dev folder (it was a very bad idea) and I created a new dev folder from what I can see it was repopulated by devices but now when I boot I@ get an error message about missing devices and there is a few ideas how to fix it in the message but it goes too fast and i cannt read it and no messages related to that in dmesg is there a way i can see this message or send the kernel boot messages to a file or does anyone knows of a solution for this thing
thanks |

I guess I finally did it this time i completely killed my system
I tried to follow a thread to fix the dev error i had (I cannot find the damn thread anymore) so I am gonna try to type what I did
it involved fixing the dev folder by
creating a new directory called test than
mount --bind / /mnt/test/dev
after i did this i sort of had a second thought about if this was a good idea so i deleted test before unmounting it that was another mistake because only a few files where deleted than i realised i had to unmount before deleting tried that but it wasnt working i had errors in bash with commands not found so i rebooted with a live cd and than i deleted the folder in hoppe things will be back to normal hell no now the entire system is completely screwed is there a file where i could delete the entry refering to test and have things back to normal or do i have to reinstall ??

I think a reinstall is in order here, if you mounted / to /mnt/test/dev as your post seems to suggest, and you started deleting stuff from /mnt/test/dev you were actually working on / You likely crippled your system by removing (parts of) /bin /sbin /lib ...
