I installed gentoo from stage1 by using chroot method in my debian.
But when I have finished doing this , I could not find "ifconfig" in my gentoo.

I just had that problem and I believe it is in the Net-Tools package...

Take my advice with a BIG grain of salt...I'm still a n00b...

Hi.

For all those unaware, you can solve these doubts by installing gentoolkit. The equery program answers these questions and more.
Code:
atl64 atlantis # equery belongs /sbin/ifconfig
[ Searching for file(s) /sbin/ifconfig in *... ]
sys-apps/net-tools-1.60-r11 (/sbin/ifconfig)
atl64 atlantis # equery belongs equery
[ Searching for file(s) equery in *... ]
app-portage/gentoolkit-0.2.1_pre8 (/usr/share/doc/gentoolkit-0.2.1_pre8/equery)
app-portage/gentoolkit-0.2.1_pre8 (/usr/bin/equery)
atl64 atlantis #

but there's no ifconfig in my gentoo at that time
You can not query a file which does not in your OS.
I have tried this way.
Gentoo does not like debian while debian can query any files whether installed or not.

That's a very good point!
But you can always check on another system or ask someone here in the forums to do it for you!

I want to find it by myself at first.
google doc ...
But at last I give it up.
So I come here.
It's not first time I install gentoo.
But it is first time I start from stage1.
