Hello!
Tomorrow i will install WinXP over Win2k and i know that all MS OS's overwrites the MBR. Making the grub not working.
I have read about booting up on the gentoo-cd and fixing it.
But how?
Is it something like: boot=/dev/hdX/bzImage
And repeating the grub installation as said in the manual when inside gentoo again?
grub> install

gentoo root=/dev/<Root Partition>
To install grub again you go into the grub shell and repeat the root and setup commands.
If your Windows and Linux partitions are on seperate drives, pull the power cord from the Linux drive when you do the install.
ps. Why XP? there's only one think XP has over 2k and that is it supports more than 10 audio devices (which is useful if you're a sound engineer).
With XP you get a buggier, slower, dumber, more cluttered OS complete with activation rubbish and a bad license (you can tell I like it huh?). _________________ ^<^>^<^>^

You might want to take a look at winex. |

Linux has a reliable r/w FAT32 module. NTFS support is being rewritten, write support is dangerous _________________ ^<^>^<^>^

winex dont work well for everything.
So free beer... hmm well i need winxp for the games that winex can't run, or run slow as hell. And when i can get it for free why not? I think it is better than Win2k.
notice that I said that I THINK soo ...
And on the NTFS... ntfs is the only filesystem that i have lost data via... And I have never had any problems with dualbooting.
I said i was upgrading from Win2k, wich is on a ntfs partition.
