Hi,

Hi.

I have only seen that error when trying to run mupen without my nvidia's driver being active.

Have you tried to download either rices's or Glide openGL plugin's (and selected it). ?

I get a similar message:
Quote:

It freezes after though :(
I've been googling around, but haven't found anything that'll help. Most forum threads I've found only handle pure Windows alternatives...

If I use the audio plugin that game with it, everything works but the sound is crackly. Have you tried using the dummy plugin? That should allow you to play if you're having problems with the audio plugin.

You try to use mupen64 without hardware 3D support - you can see this because of Mesa. You won't be able to play this way as it will be SLOOOOOOOOOW. See the nVidia/ATI guide here.

For the other errors: Start mupen64 with as few plugins as possible, then install more plugins until it crashes - bingo, you got the culprit!

[EDIT]
I tried mupen64 as binary from their homepage, and everything worked out of the box! But unfortunately it crashed in the middle of the intro of Banjo-Kazooie. :(

2 Questions regarding Mupen64.
1) I have an amd64 system and installed mupen64 and when i try to run it it segfaults on run.
2) the Glide64 plugin only has the x86 keyword.. is it ok for me to just add it to my package.keywords file?

PS. I've tried the binary from the oficial website with a little more success ( it runs but fails to correctly emulate anything )

What does that mean? Does it crash, are there errors displayed, is there a black screen ...?

I had crashes at first too, and I fixed them by selecting "Interpreter" in the options. I've also got the "No audio delay" and the "No compiled jump" options enabled.

Are you using the same plugins as j_c_p?

Shen I run mupen64, Glide64 and the RSP plugin aren't available. I get the following output to console when i run mupen64.
Code:
Couldn't load plugin '/home/dschep/mupen64-0.5/./plugins/glN64.so': libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load plugin '/home/dschep/mupen64-0.5/./plugins/mupen64_soft_gfx.so': libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load plugin '/home/dschep/mupen64-0.5/./plugins/mupen64_hle_rsp_azimer.so': libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load plugin '/home/dschep/mupen64-0.5/./plugins/ricevideo.so': libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Couldn't load plugin '/home/dschep/mupen64-0.5/./plugins/Glide64.so': libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

This seems like it could be because I'm running the 32-binary on an amd64 system.

EDIT: Seems that emerging app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-compat added the needed 32-bit library. Everything works too. I have to use the SDL input plugin because I don't know what the controls are for the basic input plugin nor can I find where to set them.

F-O_ICE : Set the CPU Core to "Interpeter".I have heard you can get the dynarec to work by setting "noexec=off" on the kernel commandline but I have not tested it.

Need4Speed : Do your alsa drivers have OSS emulation support? If not try this:
Code:
 SDL_AUDIODRIVER=alsa mupen64

You can also try with SDL_AUDIODRIVER=dsp or SDL_AUDIODRIVER=oss.If you get problems with crackly sound try playing around jttl_audio.conf.These settings work well for me with Zelda OOT:
PRIMARY_BUFFER_SIZE 1048576
LOW_BUFFER_LOAD_LEVEL 49152
HIGH_BUFFER_LOAD_LEVEL 1048576
SECONDARY_BUFFER_SIZE 512
YMMV with other games.

One thing you can try is: "Options -> Configure" If it's set to Dynamic Recompiler change that to Interpreter. amd64 users should use the binary located here. http://mupen64.emulation64.com/down.htm. I'm running amd64 multilib with ATI xpress 200m using 8.34.8 fglrx drivers. I had problems with fps with drivers 8.32.5 (didn't work for anything) and 8.33.6 (2-10 fps). 8.24.8 also worked fine. Unfortunately I have no experience with nvidia, so I can't help there.

Hope this helps.

Hugh

Just one general thing: The Rice video plug-in is better for most games... Edit: Not really... I think i mixed linux & windows..
And has anyone tried Project64 through wine? I think it's the best N64 Emu, but unfortunately closed source :( & no linux version
Another open-source Emu is 1964, unfortunately no one ported it :-/

Go to:
Options -> Configure -> Mupen64 Tab

Select:
Interpreter or Pure Interpreter

The Dynamic recompiler was what was giving me the segfault.
